IT'S A CHORE: But farmers have to fill out forms or possibly face ...

Last year, Tom Dancer farmed approximately 500 acres, all but a few rented, in Freehold, Manalapan and Millstone townships, growing field corn, soybeans, rye straw and wheat.

That quick profile of Dancer, a 49-year-old lifelong farmer who lives in Millstone, is the kind of information the U.S. Department of Agriculture seeks in its five-year census of farmers in the 50 states and Puerto Rico.

The census is important in drawing up farming legislation, determining how federal agriculture money is distributed and positioning farming support services, according to state Secretary of Agriculture Charles M. Kuperus and Troy Joshua, director of New Jersey farming statistics for the USDA.

Also, the census will provide financial figures for a state industry that is under-recognized in terms of dollars, said Peter J.

UVa Aid Policy Gets a Facelift

A year ago, the University of Virginia joined the growing list of selective institutions altering their financial aid policies to make them friendlier to students from low-income families. Now it has decided that it needs to do even more, and do it sooner, than originally planned.

Hardware Intel Responds to EU Charges With Demands of Its Own

Intel insists its innocence as it responds to antitrust allegations from the European Union Intel revels in the glory of being the CPU industry leader, at least for the time being. However, like many industry leaders, they have found themselves the primary target of the crosshairs of criticism. Further, as with any company that is dominating the market, allegations of antitrust violations become a serious threat to the company worldwide. AMD said Intel's anti-competitive practices established a monopoly in the microprocessor market. AMD then sued Intel in U.S. courts in June of 2005. The company since mounted a long-standing legal battle that included ads in major newspapers and the a website chastising Intel who it portrays as sinister and monopolistic. AMD received an ally in the form of the European Union. In July 2007, it announced that based on evidence collected in a multi year investigation, including materials found in a June 2005 raid of European Intel offices, it was filing charges against Intel for engaging in anticompetitive practices.

EMS flails against being gobbled up by Collier fire districts

Marco, Naples and EMS are not included in the above because as divisions of larger governments, all pass-throughs, subsidies and loans from other department funds could not accurately be accounted for. As Ave Maria University in eastern Collier, the Immokalee Fire Department will be responsible, in part, for providing fire-rescue service to the new town.

Also, as residential and commercial development continues along U.S. 41 East — beyond the turnoff to Goodland — East Naples, Golden Gate and Ochopee will have to provide fire and rescue service. Golden Gate and Ochopee firefighters do not have ALS divisions.

Bill Graves: Costa Rica is billfishing paradise

Our first day was good, several "lookers" and four sailfish caught, but tune in next Saturday for some odd happenings and further excitement during my two remaining days fishing along the Costa Rica coast.

Costa Rica is often referred to as the poor man's Hawaii. There's something to see or experience that will please and entertain every tourist. Sun and white sand beaches; rain forest tours featuring a wide array of unique birds, amphibians and mammals; wonderful fresh seafood and tropical libations with little umbrellas, and of course some of the finest saltwater angling in the world. Check out this Web site: www.costaricadreams.com online for info and wonderful photos or call 732-901-8625(x46) in the U.S. or 011-506-637-8942 direct to Gerard or Aristotle at the CR Dreams office in country to ask questions or to book a boat.
